[Trip] My Culinary Journey to Palembang South Sumatera

Jembatan Ampera (Ampera Bridge)
A few weeks ago, I had a business trip to Palembang (South Sumatera). I stayed for 5 nights. Here are the foods that I ate during my trip.

Pempek Candy
Pempek is a delicacy from Palembang which is made of fish and tapioca. Pempek is served together with a dark, rich sauce called cuka or cuko. Cuka is produced by adding brown sugar, minced garlic, chili peppers, white vinegar and salt to boiling water. 
Pempek Panggang
I personally don't think that this pempek is delicious. I can't really taste the fish on it.

This pempek panggang was delicious. As far as I can remember, I ate 4 or 5 of it. Because Pempek panggang is my most favorite pempek, I can't refuse to eat (a lot of) them. :)

Sambal Lalap
Sambal lalap has many outlets throughout Indonesia. But unfortunately, they haven't opened outlet in Jakarta. They serve various kind of foods with affordable prices.
Paket Ayam Bakar
This well-marinated grilled chicken was finger lickin' good. Seriously! The sambal was also addicting. I really wish that they will open outlet in Jakarta.

Kwetiau Abeng (Dempo)
Kwetiau Goreng (Fried Flat Noodle)
This kwetiau (flat noodle) is a little bit different from the kwetiau served at Jakarta. The kwetiau is thicker and firm. This one was fried with pork meat, lap cheong (sweet pork sausage), pork heart, shrimps, fish balls and veggies. The topping was given generously. This kwetiau goreng was fragrant and drew out the flavors of the ingredients.
Fuyunghai (Egg Foo Young)
I really like this fuyunghai. They used lap cheong as one of the ingredients.

Pempek Kapal Selam is made from a chicken or duck egg wrapped within the Pempek dough.
